The experiment comes to fruition!
This is another little experiment based on something I saw on the Garden Like a Viking YouTube channel. From that video I actually learnt that potatoes (like tomatoes) have both determinate and indeterminate varities.
I reckon a lot of people only know about indeterminate varities and grow them in mounds that keep getting added to as the potatoes grow.
So I managed to find some determinate varities at Mitre 10 (even the packets didn't mention if they were determinate or indeterminate). The variety I found was White Star.
Here are my two garbage bags of good soil, some of it came from the Bega Park where there were stacks of nice-looking leaf mould and compost.
In the lower layer of each bag were two seed potatoes, then higher up there are two more seed potatoes (so four seed potatoes per bag = total of 8 spuds).
I'm pretty happy with the results. Spuds for dinner!
I am sure I am an indeterminate species. I just never seem to stop growing.
